Directions by car
Driving from Auckland take the northern State Highway 1 to Whangerei.
One hour north of Whangarei is the town of Kawakawa. If visiting Paihia and the Bay of Islands, divert at this point, or if heading straight to Taupo Bay keep heading north through Kawakawa.
Approximately 25 km’s past Kawakawa take the turnoff on the right , Highway 10. Follow the signs to Kerikeri and Doubtless Bay. After 15 mins you can divert from the bypass and visit the town of Kerikeri 10 min down the road.
Continue north on Highway 10 to Kaeo. Approx 3 km’s after Kaeo, turn left onto a one way bridge north towards Doubtless Bay and the signs to Mangonui.
25 mins along this stretch of road is the turnoff towards Taupo Bay on your right. It can be missed if you’re not keeping a careful eye out for the sign.
From the main road, travel a further 12 km’s along a winding road passing over farmland before arriving at a dramatic hill that winds down into Taupo Bay itself. Along the bottom, over a one way bridge, and then the entrance way to the lodge is on the left hand side, indicated by a large posted sign ‘Taupo Bay Lodge’.
A long tree lined driveway sweeps up towards the lodge from the roadside. Lots of space to park right beside the lodge.
The beach and bay are a further 600 metres along the road past the driveway.
